I’m impressed with the current state of Fluent Boards & feature suggestions

It’s been about a year since I’ve properly looked at Fluent Boards and it has matured a lot since then. I’m very impressed, to the point that I could genuinely see it as a replacement for established products like Asana for many projects.

Here are three features I think would be useful from the perspective of marketing/communications teams that would make the product even better:

View subtasks in calendar view

I’ve worked with many marcomms teams who create top-level tasks for certain editorial/communications plans, and use subtasks to list all of the individual activities (e.g blog post, eDM, social posts)

It would be super useful for this kind of workflow to be able to display subtasks on the calendar view

Calendar view by custom field

I think it would be a game-changing feature for publishing workflows to be able to have a calendar view which would display tasks based on dates set in custom fields.

That would allow publishing teams to manage due dates for different parts of their workflows like a “draft date”, “review date”, “publishing date” or anything else that makes sense, while also keeping the overall due date in terms of managing the schedule for getting the actual work done.

Add tasks to multiple projects

One of the features I really miss from Asana is the ability to share a single task across multiple projects.

This is really useful for tasks where different teams collaborate and have their own workflows.

Love the product!

Overall I really love the state of Fluent Boards, and I think it’s amazing to have such a powerful project management system available as part of a WordPress website. And of course, the integration with other Fluent plugins is a huuuge value add!

My favourite feature from this recent review is the subtask groups – what a great addition! I was pleasantly surprised to find myself actually wishing for a Fluent Boards feature in other products like Asana.

I’m wishing good luck to the team with the upcoming 2.0 release!
